After 3 months of hard work and timeless effort, the Engineering Society had finally arrived on the day where everything will gather in our Multimedia University Grand Hall, Cyberjaya. From the 19th February 2009 till the 22nd February 2009(Thursday till Sunday), various astronomy related party had joined us here in E-Week 2009: Beyond the Sky to bring you an unforgettable educational astronomy experience. From our very own National Space Agency(ANGKASA) to the main sponsor of this program, MOTOROLA, as well as co-sponsor, JATI, we bring you exciting facts of space, showing you night sky as you never seen before, mini planetarium, telescopes, telecommunication systems and more.
That's not all, Dr. Chong Hon Yew, Advisor of the Astronomy Club of Universiti Sains Malaysia(USM), one of the very famous person in Malaysia's astronomical activities, had came all the way down from Penang island and be here with us in these four days activities. During E-Week 2009, we managed to build 11 water rockets, 5 with parachutes and another 6 without parachutes. Despite of the hot weather, it doesn't stop the students for going out to the open space to launch their self-built water rocket. Count-down was made as ,one-by-one, each of the rocket is launched into the sky. It was indeed an exciting and fun experience for everyone, even to the commitee members itselves.
Apart from that, ever seen and touched a rainbow before? According to the theoritical facts, it is impossible for anyone to go near and touch the rainbow. Well, on the third day of E-Week 2009, Dr. Chong had brought us close to the rainbow than we can ever imagine. By building a spectrohelioscope, using just a few recyclable material(tissue box, cd-roms, mirror...), we manage to capture the solar rainbow in screen. The students definitely enjoyed it.
During the night, STARGAZER SCIENTIFIC showed us the night sky which is beyond our imagination. We managed to see planet venus, saturn(with the saturn ring), comets, etc. Besides that, by using their high-end laser pointer, the whole sky is like a blackboard to them, pointing and showing us constellation of the stars, Orion for instance.
Further coming up is the setting up of Astronomy Club in Multimedia University. Stay tuned with us as we will bring you far more exciting experience than before!

E-WEEK 2009: BEYOND THE SKY, AN EDUCATIONAL ASTRONOMY EXHIBITION
By Engineering Society, Multimedia University, Cyberjaya
Way up above the sky, is a whole new space beyond our wildest imagination. From the 19th of February (Thursday) to the 22nd of February 2009 (Sunday), the Engineering Society of Multimedia University (MMU) will be organizing its largest astronomical exhibition in the Grand Hall of the Cyberjaya campus. In line with their theme, “Beyond the Sky”, the exhibition will be showcasing fascinating details about space science, telescopes and various satellite systems. This interesting exhibition will be open to the public from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Thursday and Sunday, while on Friday and Saturday it will last until 11pm.
The exhibition will not only be displaying realistic space craft models that are sure to appeal to children and adult alike, many fun-filled activities will also be organized, making it an event not to be missed! Some of the activities include water racket launching, solar rainbow observation, night sky observations, space simulation, DIY telescope workshop and many more.
Also, visitors who wish to be rewarded for their creativity might want to try their hand in the drawing competition to design their own alien creature. Participants will be sorted to different categories based on their age.
“We want to make astronomy education as interesting as possible and not just another boring astronomy talk. We also hoping that astronomy education would become more and more active in Cyberjaya” said Dr Chong Hon Yew from Universiti Sains Malaysia, referring to all the hands-on activities designed to entertain the visitors while educating them about astronomy.
“We have put in our best effort in planning this exhibition in the hopes that it would bring a lot of excitement and fun to everyone,” said Wong Zhi Qin, the director of this event, who is doing his second year in engineering in MMU.
For those of you going on Friday and Saturday night, there will be a special treat in store for you. The Engineering Society of MMU will show you the sky as you have never seen before!
So what are you waiting for? Jot these dates down into your dairy and invite all your friends and family along to E-week 2009 at MMU Cyberjaya! Entrance is free for all.
